About SmileFinder

SmileFinder is a free, family-focused directory of HRSA-funded community health centers offering affordable pediatric and family dental care across the United States.

Why we built SmileFinder

About 1 in 5 American children has untreated tooth decay, and the gap is widest among families on Medicaid, families without dental insurance, and families living in rural areas. The federal community health center network — over 18,000 sites nationwide — is built to serve exactly these families, but parents often don't know it exists, can't easily find the nearest site, or aren't sure whether the center actually offers dental services for kids.

SmileFinder solves that with one simple, fast, free directory. Every clinic in our database is sourced directly from the HRSA Health Center Service Delivery and Look-Alike Sites dataset (18,832 active sites as of July 2026), filtered to only the federally-qualified health centers that are required to provide pediatric and family dental services as part of their core service set.

Where our data comes from

The clinic listings are sourced from the federal HRSA Health Center Service Delivery and Look-Alike Sites public dataset. Per-state Medicaid and CHIP coverage information is verified against Medicaid.gov state plans, KFF state coverage tables, and each state Medicaid agency's official site. We re-pull the HRSA dataset and re-verify state programs at least quarterly.

What SmileFinder is not

We are an independent directory. We are not affiliated with HRSA, CMS, or any state Medicaid agency. We don't bill insurance, schedule appointments, or have any role in your care — for that, please contact the clinic directly. We also don't claim every listed clinic offers every service; FQHCs are required by federal law to provide a comprehensive set of services, but availability of specific services (e.g. orthodontia, sedation dentistry, or special-needs care) varies by clinic. Always call first.

Our editorial standards

Articles and guides on SmileFinder are written by health-policy researchers and reviewed for medical accuracy. We cite primary sources (federal regulations, peer-reviewed studies, official state agencies) and update content whenever programs change. We do not accept advertising from clinics in exchange for editorial coverage, and we don't promote specific brands of dental products.
